50th Anniversary

50th Anniversary Celebration

During 2006, the Greenbackville Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. marked 50 years of service to the community. On Saturday, September 30th, a large celebration was held to commemorate the monumental occasion. Event highlights included a special Memorial & Recognition Service, held at the Union United Methodist Church in Greenbackville, beginning at 10:00 a.m.. During the service the names of all deceased members were read, and all of the living Charter members received proclamations from both the House of Delegates, and Senate of the Commonwealth of Virginia. At 12:00 p.m., an Antique Fire Apparatus Parade was held, during which the Fire Department & Ladies Auxiliary charter members were chauffeured in antique automobiles. The late Richard A. Culver of Greenbackville, served as "Grand Marshall" of the parade. At the conclusion of the parade, a Firemen's Muster & Olympics competition was held on Stockton Avenue. Throughout the day, both the Fire Station and Banquet Hall were open to the public for tours. To conclude the event, a dance was held in the fire station for members and their guests. Due to the overwhelming support given to the department and the outstanding participation, the 50th Anniversary celebration was very successful with an estimated attendance of over 500 people. Congratulations to the 50th Anniversary Committee for a job well-done.
