Truck Company Assist to Station 300

Residential Structure Fire - Taylor Landing Rd
At 0721 hours on August 6, Station 2 was alerted to respond Truck 2,  mutual-aid assist to Worcester County - Station 300 (Girdletree) for a working Residential Structure Fire, at 6618 Taylor Landing Road in Girdletree, Maryland. On the initial alert, Worcester central dispatched fire units from Stations 300 and 200 (Stockton); and Station 400 (Snow Hill) for an EMS unit.  Upon arrival Girdletree Chief 350 (B. Hauck) reported heavy smoke showing from the roof, and requested a Tower/Truck to respond. GVFD Truck 2 responded with 4 personnel; command also requested a R.I.T. crew from Station 400, and a stand-by Engine at Station 300. Engine 305 established a draft at the Taylor Landing boat ramp, to be used if necessary. Once on location, Truck 2 set-up ladder operations and made entry to the roof.  Crews performed ventilation and assisted with fire suppression in the elevator shaft of the residence. Stockton Chief 250 (N. Payne) had operations. After the fire was extinguished crews remained on the scene for extensive salvage & overhaul. The last remaining Girdletree units cleared the scene at approximately 0935 hrs. The cause of the fire was ruled to be a lightning strike to the home's solar panels, located on the roof.

Units on scene were: (Girdletree) Engine 305, Engine/Tanker 301, Tanker 302, Rescue 3, Medic-Assist 3; (Stockton) Rescue-Engine 2, Engine 202, Tanker 2; (Snow Hill) 400 Paramedic unit, Engine 401, Engine 405; (Greenbackville) Truck 2; (Pocomoke) Engine 102 and units from the Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office.  Also during the incident various station cover/transfer assignments were made: Engine 102 to Station 300 (later requested to the scene for overhaul), and Engine 506 & Utility 580 (Newark) to Station 400.
