Mutual-Aid to Girdletree, MD - Station  300

On October 21, 2016 at 09:54 hours, Station 2 (Greenbackville) was dispatched to assist Worcester County Station 300 (Girdletree) with a working residential structure fire at 5919 Box Iron Road, in Girdletree. Tanker 2-7 responded and was the first mutual-aid tanker to arrive on the scene. Crews found a 2.5 story wood frame, balloon construction home with smoke showing on arrival. Girdletree Chief 350 (B. Hauck) was in command of the incident. Crews placed four (4), 1.75″ hand lines into service and Ladder 4 (Snow Hill) was utilized to access the attic. Personnel from Girdletree, Stockton, Snow Hill, Greenbackville (VA), and Pocomoke City worked together to contain and extinguish the fire. The fire presumably originated in the kitchen, but it also spread to the 2nd floor and attic due to the balloon construction design. Crews were on location for approximately two (2) hours. The residence was not occupied at the time and there were no injuries reported.
